What You Need To Know In 5 Minutes

Baby carriers have been slowly rising in popularity to the point where you are hard-pressed to find a baby registry that does not include this convenient contraption. While baby carriers have been around for a while, what’s being offered today varies greatly from what previous generations used to “safely” tote around their babies! At the end of the day, all you really need is a sling that fits your activity level and lifestyle, comes recommended by national safety organizations, and can be easily washed. We have provided a list of some of the most popular slings for your baby that have proven to be safe for infants.

Whether or not your sling can be easily washed is invaluable. All it takes is one bout of spit-up to create a crusty, smelly mess. If a sling only offers hand washing, then don’t even consider it as an option.

A baby carrier is designed to keep your little one snug and close. Combine those cuddles with the hot sun, and you’ve just amped up both of your body temperatures to an unbearable level. Look for a sling that is breathable and won’t turn your baby into a sweaty little bundle of joy.

Babies love to be close to mom until they are ready to see the world. Look for a sling that will grow with your baby. A good rule of thumb is to purchase a sling that easily fit a snug newborn and then allow for an infant to face outward in curiosity. Ideally, the sling should also be able to accommodate a small toddler as well.

One of the biggest complaints that mothers have is the sore back that often accompanies baby slings. Look for a sling with an ergonomic design that will keep you from feeling hunched over and crooked.

Cute Fabrics
While having a baby carrier that looks edgy is nice, it really doesn't affect the actual product.

Sun Shades
Some carriers feature a sun shade that can be attached to cover your baby while outside. The same effect can be achieved with a sun hat or a thin towel when necessary.

Rain Covers
Unless you live in a wet area, rain covers are not a necessary accessory.

A Word Of Caution
Not all baby carriers are created equally! To safely carry your infant, follow the guidelines of Baby Wearing International when choosing a carrier. A good carrier holds your child in a position you would naturally carry them in arms in front, on your hip, or for a piggyback ride.

ERGObaby, Britax

When choosing a baby carrier, stick with those recommended by organizations like Baby Wearing International to make sure that you are buying a product that will keep your baby safe. While these recommendations are a guide, the most important thing to consider is whether or not your baby is safely placed, is able to breathe, and is in a non-cramped, natural position.
