What You Need To Know In 5 Minutes

You're going to need a way to shave and groom your facial hair if you don't want to look like ZZ Top.  Manual razors are great when you have time and access to shaving cream and a sink. These days everyone is trying to cram so much into a day that they don't want to spend a lot of time doing mundane tasks.  An electric shaver is great because it makes shaving more convenient and safe.  Instead of getting lathered up, using an open blade and possibly cutting yourself because your trying to get out the door, just use a electric shaver.  You can even bring it on the road with you and shave whenever you have a free moment.

There are certain features that you need to look for when buying an electric shaver.  A manual razor is always going to give you a closer shave than an electric shaver, however that doesn't mean you can't get a great close shave.  The obvious first feature you need is a close smooth shave, there is new technology that allows you to get a extremley close shave without irritating your skin.  There are two types of electric shavers a foil and rotary style.  Foil shavers have one to three floating heads with the cutter behind a perforated screen.  A rotary shaver has three or even four circular floating headers with the cutters spinning behind.  Foil shavers will give you a little closer shave however they tend to be louder and harder to clean than a rotary shaver.

The closeness of the shave is very important but if the shaver has a poor battery then it doesn't matter.  The battery should charge fast and give you between 45 and 60 minutes of shaving time.  What is considered a fast charge?  The economical shavers will charge completely in 8 hours while better shavers will charge in one hour.  There is nothing worse than needing to shave and having the battery be dead.   Many of the better razors now have a quick charge feature that will make it so you can finish your shave with only spending a couple minutes charging the battery.  It's also very helpful to have a indicator on the shaver telling you how much battery you have left.

Long hair trimmers are another feature that is pretty standard these days.  You're going to have to clean the shaver, most of the hair gets sucked into it.  Most shavers will allow you to rinse it out with water.  Other higher end shavers will even clean it while it charges.  Wet shaving is another great feature you can get.  This allows you to take it in the shower and shave while getting wet.  A pivoting head will help make the shaver get better closer at certain angles.

Some other features being offered include a travel lock switch that just puts the shaver in a locked mode.  This helps so the shaver doesn't turn on while in your suitcase.  Some shavers even have a LCD screen to display important information.  There are even electric shavers that will self lubricate while shaving to give you an even closer shave.

There are only a handful of brands which make electric shavers.  We found that Braun, Panasonic and Philips Norelco had the highest quality electric shavers.  Other brand names that were lower quality were Remington and Wahl.  Overall Philips Norelco gave you the most quality and features for the money.

Warranty and shaver maintenance is another key area to pay attention to.  We found that Braun and Philips Norelco came with a 2 year warranty.  Panasonic only came with a 1 year warranty.  These shavers also need to be maintained, it's recommended that you replace the heads every year.  Keep in mind of how much the replacement parts are going to cost.  On average you're going to pay around 20-40 dollars a year in replacement parts.

You can get an amazing electric shaver for less than 80 dollars.  You need one that will give you a very close smooth shave.  You want to get one with a great battery that will charge fast and give you at least 45 minutes of shaving time.  You also want one that can give you a shave if the battery is dead.  You either need one with a quick charge or one that you can plug into the wall if you forgot to charge it.  It's nice to have a wet shaver but its not necessary, most of the ones we liked came with that feature.  A trimmer is also a must have feature, you will want to cut longer hair.  In order to clean fast you need it to also be washable.  Lastly you need at least a 1 year warranty.
